How do I create red spiderman icing if I don’t have access to Wilton colour pastes?
I want to create a Spiderman cake for my son’s 4th birthday, but I live in a third world country and don’t have access to Wilton brand products or any other kind of decorating supplies – just regular food colours?
Is there a way to make red icing really red without using Witon ‘no-taste’ red? And is there a way to create black icing using ordinary household food items?
You can use the regular food colorings, but it may take a lot of it, and you’ll need to reduce the liquids in the recipe by the volume of liquid in the coloring you use.
The liquids don’t usually have the bad taste that’s in the “regular” Wilton red.
For black, I start with cocoa. If you have nothing to color it, consider just going with a dark chocolate flavored frosting. When people look at cakes, they are very forgiving about exact coloring.
Try adding some of that “regular” blue food coloring to the brown. Experiment with small amounts to see how the colors interact.
I often substitute chocolate for black because it tastes better.
